My wife, Sheena gave birth on August 17th, 2006
to our second child Zander Kelly Clark. A
few hours after he was born we were informed
that he was born with Hypo-Plastic Left Heart
Syndrome, and he was immediately rushed to
The University of Virginia's Medical Center in
Charlottesville, Va. At 5 days old Zander
had his first of three very risky heart
surgeries. The surgery took nearly 7 hours
and was a tremendous success, Dr. Peeler did a
fantastic job, and Zander has been
doing quite well since.
Zander has made it thru his second heart surgery
at 5 months old and he recovered at
UVA Medical Center. This surgery went
extremely well however the recovery was much
harder on Zander this go-round, as he had 5 seizures and he had a lung collapse after they
removed his ventilator. However after a
few days, he was much better and started eating again.
Zander was released to go home after being in
the hospital for 3 weeks.
Since his second surgery he has improved
tremendously, he started eating baby food
and gained a ton of weight, the Cardiologist
he sees in Roanoke, Dr. Miller, is so pleased
that they have told us we now only need to be
seen once every 3 months or as needed because of how well he
is doing.
Zander won't have to have another surgery until
he is 3 years old, which will be on August 17th,
2009. We should be finding out very soon
when his surgery will be schedule for and we
believe it should be sometime in September
2009. We can only hope that he will continue to get
better!
